This can be items like your uniform top, your uniform pants, stationary, your books, your linen kit, and so on.

You buy some extra expenses from The National School of Aesthetics and other extra expenses from our sister company, Aesthetics Importing.

Other extra expenses you will buy from external suppliers like Briscoes or The Warehouse (“external supplier”).

Extra expenses are listed in the Course Information Pack and in detail in on thie page.

Many textbooks and other reading material are available for the courses we offer, and we may offer a recommended reading list for you to either purchase the books from a third-party supplier or borrow them from the public library (if the books are available).

For the New Zealand Certificate in Beauty Therapy programme, we highly suggest the Anatomy & Physiology Student Workbook by Kate L Tierney, ISBN-13 978-1468175806. This is relatively inexpensive for a Kindle version.

Your Computer or Laptop

To complete your case studies and other work, you should have a computer or laptop.

Some tutors require you to complete your assessments electronically and email them to them or upload them to Teams.

Cell phones, tablets and many Google Chromebooks are not acceptable as they may be able to process the Word documents using macros. It is vital for you to have access to a computer or laptop with the capacity to use macros.

You are not required to buy a new computer or laptop with new software if you have a computer or laptop already. We do suggests you make sure you use Microsoft Word as your word-processing application as the case study templates we use have been created in Word.

International examinations

You can find out more about international examinations on our International Examination Systems page and our International Examinations page.

International qualifying examinations are optional but highly recommended. Some students sit all examinations while others only one; the choice is yours.

You apply for international examinations through us. Please see the Important Dates section of our School Terms, Important Dates and Holidays page for application due dates. Please note that some examinations may not be available dependent on student numbers and international examining bodies trips to New Zealand.

Exam dates listed in this document are indicative only and are subject to change. Fees for international examinations vary.

International qualifying examinations are considered an extra expense and the costs cannot be drawn down from the course cost section of the student loan (as they are not compulsory).

Our Education and Training Team will discuss these international examination options more in-depth with your class later in your programme.

Your Linen Kit

Your linen kit is a selection of towels you use most days in your training.

Requirements vary from programme to programme so we have listed each programme’s linen kit separately.

You must wash your linen kit after class in preparation for the next day’s classes.

If you are unable to dry your linen kit overnight due to not having a dryer or adverse weather conditions, you may need to buy a second linen kit so you are prepared for class.

  • Any solid colour except white
  • The entire linen kit should be the same colour
  • We highly suggest dark colours
  • No patterns on the towels
  • No stripes on the towels
  • We highly suggest you purchase inexpensive towels as they are cheap to replace if you stain them.
  • Headbands are available through Aesthetics Importing

Tutors and team members may also recommend other items for both school and home use.

You are under no obligation to buy these items, but we require you to practice routines and treatments off-campus. You will need to purchase products and items to do this. You also will need to study effectively off-campus, and we may recommend study guides to help you with this.

Special Notes on Extra Expenses

Here are notes about extra expenses and how we came up with the prices on some items:

  • Please create a realistic budget before applying to ensure you can afford it: include accommodation, transportation.
  • The costs and items we list are as accurate as possible and were accurate as of 7 August 2026. We bear no responsibility or liability for changes in prices or requirements.
  • Students section on our Web site: You can find more information on some items and accommodation in the Students section on our Web site.
  • Where to purchase / suppliers: Some extra expenses you purchase through us (Aesthetics House Limited trading as The National School of Aesthetics also known as NaSA). You also purchase some extra expenses through Aesthetics Importing (see below). Where the ““Where to purchase” states ““External supplier””Where to buy” section states “Prices vary from store to store”, this means you may be able to source them from multiple stores. It is up to you to make sure you get the right extra expenses for the best price available, so it may pay to shop around.
  • Aesthetics Importing is a separate company from The National School of Aesthetics. You pay for and collect books, et cetera, from Aesthetics Importing on or after the first day of the programme from our campus except your uniform top.
  • Before you start the programme, you will receive invoices from Aesthetics House Limited trading as The National School of Aesthetics: one for programme fees, another for extra expenses. You will also receive invoices from Aesthetics Importing: one for extra expenses, another for your uniform. You will also receive a statement with any payments received.
  • Computer and accessories: Students need a computer (desktop or laptop) to complete case studies and other written (typed) assessments. This computer must be able to handle macros in the desktop app version of Microsoft Word. They require a printer as well (or get printing done at someplace like Warehouse Stationary) to turn their case studies or other assessments in by hand, where and when required.
  • Consumables: Consumables were sourced from Woolworths on 7 August 2026:
  • Eyeshadow palette was priced at $32.99 (Chi Chi 9 Shade Palette – Soft Nudes) from Farmers on 7 August 2026.
  • Box of gloves were priced at $12.35 for Ace Disposable Gloves Vinyl (50 count) from Woolworths on 7 August 2026.
  • ID badge and Public Trust Account Fee: You will need to pay for a new ID badge and a new Public Trust Account Fee for each programme. Even if you are enrolled in both the New Zealand Certificate in Beauty Therapy and the New Zealand Diploma in Beauty Therapy, you will need to pay for one ID badge and one Public Trust Account Fee for the certificate programme and another ID badge and another Public Trust Account Fee for the diploma programme.
  • International examinations are based on 2026 prices. These can increase from 2% to 5% from the year before and are also dependent on a stable exchange rate.
  • Linen kit (excluding headband) was priced from Briscoes on 7 August 2026 between:
    • New Zealand Certificate in Nail Technology: $70 (1 set) and $140 (2 sets)
    • New Zealand Certificate in Beauty Therapy: $190 (1 set) and $380 (2 sets)
    • New Zealand Diploma in Beauty Therapy: $160 (1 set) and $320 (2 sets)
    • And was comprised of:
    • The higher price on linen kits reflects twice as many towels and sheets for students who have issues drying their linen kit overnight and therefore will need a second set of sheets to be prepared for class.
  • A basic makeup brush set can vary in price. Some students already have their own kits, which are fine for classroom use as long as they meet requirements. The makeup brush set and powder puffs were sourced from Farmers on 7 August 2026:
  • Mascara and mascara wands were priced and sourced from:
  • Medical kit: We are not allowed to administer medication (Panadol, Ibuprofen, et cetera), so you will need to bring your own.
  • Nail files were priced around $1 for one 200-240 grit nail file from Aesthetics Importing on 7 August 2026.
  • Nail polish was priced $19.99 (Essie Really Red) from Farmers on 7 August 2026.
  • Nail technology kits: These were reorganised into 3 distinct kit types for 2026: basic, gel, and acrylic. Prices based on supplier information on 7 August 2026.
  • Regulation uniform top: Based on Aesthetics Importing 2026 prices as quoted on 7 August 2026. Buy via NaSA.
  • Successful application fee: Every successful applicant must pay the successful application fee upon each enrolment. This cannot come from a student loan.
  • Textbooks: You will need to purchase your required textbooks directly from us to ensure they are the correct version and printed in the same batch. This also allows you to highlight and write notes in the books yourselves and keep them for later reference.
  • Three-way buffer was priced around $4 for a 400/600 buffer from Aesthetics Importing on 7 August 2026.
  • Tweezers were priced at $53.00 for Tweezerman brand Slant Tweezer from Adore Beauty on 7 August 2026.
  • Workplace First Aid Certificate: Based on St John’s price for the First Aid Level 1 course on 7 August 2026. Prices may vary from education provider to education provider.
  • You may need to refresh, restock or replace some extra expenses over time. We cannot give you an estimate on costs as this can vary from student to student and how well they maintain their equipment or go through their stock.
  • External prices were priced, in some instances, from a low- to moderate-cost source. These are estimates only, and we bear no responsibility for fluctuations in these prices.
  • These items do not include some products or equipment for home use or study.
